Contemporary fiction for children and teenagers increasingly reflects the concerns of western society about the environment and climate change. This talk reviews different approaches employed by writers from realistic representation to fantasy to engage readers with these serious problems which their generation will have to address.

Jean Webb is Professor of International Children’s Literature and Director of the International Forum for Research in Children’s Literature at the University of Worcester. She has published widely and lectured on children’s literature in about twenty-five countries.
